At the 1871 Canadian census of Saint-Gregoire, Becancour, Nicolet, Quebec, he was 7, living with parents and 5 siblings.

Born in Canada, he emigrated to the US with his family in 1879 and became a naturalized US citizen before 1900. In 1880 he lived with his family in Harrisville, New Hampshire. His father, who could not read or write, according to the census report, worked in a woolen mill.

After this initial migration, however, his family returned for a time to Canada where they were counted again in the 1881 census of Saint-Gregoire, Nicolet, Quebec. He was 15, living with parents and 6 siblings.

He married Marie Emma Eugenie White/Leblanc (1863 - 1942), daughter of Joseph Jules White/Leblanc and Philomene Denis/Deshais, on 14 May 1888 in Marlborough, New Hampshire. Their marriage record calls him a spinner and her a weaver, both textile workers. They had children:

. Alice Desilets (1889 -

+ sp: Ernest "Dale" Alexander Leslie
. Florida Desilets (1893 - 1989)

+ sp: Frank J. Shevlin
. Mary Jane Desilets (1898 - 1898)
. Yvonne Mary Desilets (1905 - 1997)
+ sp: Joseph Edward Botello

In 1900 he lived in Wilton, New Hampshire with wife, 4 daughters and his mother in law. He worked in a woolen mill. He moved his family to Keene, New Hampshire before 1905.

In 1910 and 1920 he lived in Keene with wife and daughters and continued to work in a woolen mill.

In 1930 he worked as a farm laborer in Keene. He and his wife lived alone.
