Nicholas Alexander Obituary

Nicholas (Nickie) Alexander - TYBEE ISLAND - Nicholas (Nickie) Alexander, 94, died peacefully at his home last Friday, March 10, 2016. Many thanks to Hospice Savannah, Inc. that quickly fulfilled his wishes and moved to get him home. While in the hospital, he told his family and friends that he had a four letter word for them..... E X I T! He just wanted to go home! Nickie was born in Youngstown, Ohio and moved to Tybee in 1945. The island would never be the same. He either built, bought, or sold most every restaurant or bar on the island. When he owned what is now the Sunrise Restaurant he slept in the back room. He lived large and had a full, rewarding, and exciting life on Tybee. Nickie was an MP and served in WW II and the Korean War. He was a loyal member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and held many titles of position on Tybee Island. He is pre-deceased by his wife that he loved dearly, Voncyle. They married in 1950. Survivors include his sisters Elinor Halley and Phyllis Borchers, son Tyrone Alexander (Julie) and their sons Tyler, Troy and Trad; many nieces and nephews; and many close, true friends that stood by him as he eased into retirement. They ran errands, provided transportation, cooked, cleaned and gave legal advice among many other things. Not many men will ever have as many loving friends, as Nickie! He was truly blessed! Memorial Mass is at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
