Annie Eliz Gaston, only daughter of George Alexander Gaston and the former Miss Mary Jane Miller, was born Christmas Eve 1859 in Anderson County, Texas. Her father died during the Civil War in 1863 and her mother was re-married to Henry E. Shafer; whom Annie knew as her father.
Annie Eliza Gaston married John McCarty Ackerman on the 11th of November 1880. They had three children:
Annie Gertrude [Ackerman] Wood (1881 – 1972)
Benjamin Calhoun Ackerman (1884 – 1952)
George Gaston Ackerman (1890 – 1894)
