JAMES MARQUIS HOOD Jr. Obituary
James Marquis Hood, Jr. 69, of Dora, Mo., passed away October 18, 2011, at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, MO. after succumbing to lung cancer, then pneumonia. No services are scheduled at this time. James wishes were to be cremated by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville, Mo, and have a private memorial service, at his home at a later date, in the spring. James was born to Mary Agnes "Harrington" Hood and James, Sr. in Indiana on March 15, 1942. The family moved from Shady Side, IN to Mt Home, Ark. when James, Jr. was 12. He attended Mt. Home elementary and High School with the class of 1961. He later moved to Kansas City, KS with a few high school mates to work at the GM Fairfax Assembly Plant. He and a few classmates soon joined the Air Force, where he served his country for the years enlisted, left with an honorable discharge, and returned to work at the GM Plant. He retired in the late '90s as Material Dept. manager. He then moved to his vacation home in Dora, Mo, which he purchased in the late '70s, where he cared for his mother, Mary Agnes, until her death in '09. James and his mother were supportive of the Bethany Baptist Church Dora, MO. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing & kayaking, riding his ATV, mountain biking, hiking and exploring the pristine areas around his home. He was an active member of the ARA, and the Dora, MO Volunteer Fire Dept. James was honorarily appointed "Mayor of Kelly Fjord Crossing" by his neighbors, for diligently looking after the needs of the local residents for road clearing, fire wood, mowing and general property safety and well being. He is sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. James was preceded in death by his parents, older brother William and younger brother Noah. He is survived by 1 niece and 4 nephews in Indiana, 1 nephew in Arkansas. Please send any donations to his favorite groups as memorials in his name to Dora, MO Volunteer Fire Dept., the Dora, MO RIII School District, Bethany Baptist Church in Dora, MO or the American Cancer Society .
