Duane Edward Cuthrell was born June 08, 1961, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Edward Eldon and Nancy Lee Cuthrell.

Duane graduated in 1980 from Crestland Community School in Early, Iowa, and was a member of the Methodist youth group.

Over a 40-year span, he lived in Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Virginia, Florida and New Mexico before returning to Iowa, where he made his home in Des Moines.

serving his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Duane worked in the hospitality industry for 14 years.

Following 9/11 he moved into the real estate industry, working at title and escrow companies in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in New Mexico and remotely in Des Moines, Iowa.

Duane was a precinct official during the 2018 elections and was an enumerator for the U.S. Census Bureau for the 2020 census.

In 2021 he became a patient access representative at MercyOne through Conifer Health Solutions, assisting patients and families through the admission process in the emergency room, outpatient care and finally in the imaging department.

Duane had numerous hobbies: vegetable gardening, raising backyard chickens, genealogy/family history, volunteering for Find a Grave, and geocaching, to name a few. (His favorite T-shirt was "I just want to work in my garden and hang out with my chickens.")

He loved to travel and had visited all fifty states, mostly by car. Duane had the opportunity to visit Italy, France, England, Scotland and Wales. His next goal was to visit all seven of the continents and had two completed.

Duane loved animals, caring for rescued Japanese Chins, Judy, ViVi and Benji. Family and friends remember him as someone who would always help out anyone who asked, be a shoulder to lean on and always had a positive outlook on life.

He died Saturday, May 28, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 60.

A Celebration of Life Service was held June 18, 2022, in Urbandale United Church of Christ in Des Moines.
