Ruth and Milton welcomed their first son in November 1946.

Following his time in the Navy, Milton was briefly employed at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Depot, but decided to take advantage of the education benefits of the G.I. Bill, which Congress had enacted for returning serviceman, and he began his undergraduate studies at the University of Louisville in February 1946. Milton majored in Chemistry and Pre-Medical studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in June 1948. He was accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1948 and graduated with his Medical Degree in June 1952.

In March 1952, the family welcomed their second son.

Their third son was born in February 1954.

Milton then returned to IU School of Medicine, assumed his residency in Pathology from 1955 to 1959 and became Board certified in 1959 in both Anatomical and Clinical Pathology.

April 1958 saw the couple's fourth son born.

Milton practiced Pathology in Bradenton, FL from 1959 – 1966. He and his family again returned to Indiana in 1966, when he formed the Medical Diagnostic Services Group with Dr. Paul Elliot for the practice of Pathology in 1966. He was an Emeritus member of the Indiana State Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and an Emeritus Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
