Oleta (Howard) Stewart is the daughter of Casey Lois (C.L.) Howard and Jeannetta (Cravens) Howard. Oleta was the oldest of six children born to C.L. and Jeannetta in the Noodle community of Jones County. Her siblings are James Casey Howard, William Thomas Howard, Ercell Burnell Howard, Lena Evelyn Howard Holt and Lula Pearl Howard Smith.
On August 3, 1940, she married William Eugene "Gene" Stewart. They have four children, Betty Marie Stewart Vaughan, Georgia Ann Stewart Morgan, Shirley Pearl Stewart White, and Mark William Stewart. Oleta worked for the Abilene School System Food Service beginning in 1963 or 1964, and was a cafeteria manager before retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ in Abilene.
