He was born on January 14, 1960, in Seymour, the son of Daniel and Veatrice (Blewett) Thomas.
Jay was a graduate of Seymour High School, class of 1978. He became one of Seymour's best all-time athletes excelling in basketball and track. After graduating from Seymour High School, he attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.
Jay worked at Buck Carr Roofing, Golden Foundry and served as a counselor at Atterbury Job Corps.
Jay is survived by his mother, Veatrice Thomas; four brothers, Daniel Thomas, Jr., David Thomas, Jason Thomas, and Justin Thomas; his long-time companion Tina Theilen; six children, Angel (Thomas) Dabner, Isaiah Thomas, Keighana Thomas, Jacob Eckstein, Jordan Thomas, and Kenny Thomas. He is also survived by several grandchildren, his Uncle and Aunt, Ralph and Paula Blewett and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Thomas, Sr.; paternal grandparents, James, and Fannie Thomas; his maternal grandparents Melvin and Oneida Blewett and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jay shared an inner love for all that knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
