Cyril was born on the 11th July 1921 in Bristol. He was the son of Gilbert George and Lilian Norah Adams (née Paget), of 52 Cherington Road, Bristol, Gloucestershire. His father worked for the Post Office as an Overseer. Cyril had an older sister Eileen Vera and a younger sister Stella.

In 1939 as war broke out the family were living at 52 Cherington Road, Westbury on Trym in Bristol. His father was now a Sorting Clerk and Telegrapher with the General Post Office whilst Cyril also worked there as an Electrical Addressograph operator. Cyril was a Scout with the 26th Bristol (North Cote) Group.

Cyril joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, serving as a Pilot with 150 Squadron. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for gallantry. This was announced in the London Gazette on the 23rd May 1944. The recommendation for his award reads as follows:
'Throughout his tour of operational duty, Flight Sergeant Adams has shown a very high standard of leadership, coolness and courage in fulfilling his allotted tasks. Much of the success of the raid on the Fiume torpedo works was due to his efficiency'.

He moved to 76 Operational Training Unit taking up the role of Pilot Instructor. This unit was based at RAF Aqir (near Rehovot) in Israel where it had been formed on the 1st October 1943. Throughout its existence it was equipped with Vickers Wellington bombers.

On the 25th August 1944 he was on a training operation flying in a Wellington bomber Serial Number LP197 when it crashed near Caesarea in Israel. All the crew perished and were buried there. In 1945 their bodies were exhumed and re-buried in a collective grave in Khayat Beach War Cemetery.

Cyril was awarded the following medals: Distinguished Flying medal, 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals.

On the 8th January 1945 his father was granted probate at Bristol of his estate of £275 6s 5d.

Sadly his sister Stella had died at the age of nineteen, her death being registered in Bristol in the first quarter of 1943.

Cyril is remembered on the War Memorial in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol and on the Scouts Second World War Roll of Honour.
