He worked for Doubleday in Smithsburg, MD for about 20 years, and he later worked for Jerr Dan Corporation in Hagerstown, MD for about 8 years, before retiring.

He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro, attending there since 1960. During those years, he served as a deacon, a trustee and taught Sunday School.

A beloved husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed watching sports on television, especially golf. In his younger years he enjoyed playing golf as well as bowling with his wife. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michael, Corinne, Courtney, Whitney, Rachel, Sequoia, and Oakli; four step-grandchildren: Corey, Jennifer, Jessica, and Jaclyn, five great-grandchildren: Dante, Talia, Malachi, Zoe, and DaMyia. Surviving siblings are Linda Hoskins of Florida, Kenneth Harbaugh and his wife, Bonnie of Quincy, PA, and Janet Bynecker of Fairfield, PA, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
