Kathleen worked as a Registered Nurse at several hospitals in Ohio and Maryland and was known to work double-shifts for multiple days in a row before she would let patients go without adequate care. While living in Salisbury, Maryland, she served as the Director of Nursing at a local hospital and enjoyed moonlighting in another local emergency room to remain hands-on with patient care. During this time, she met Stephen Selby of Sykesville, Maryland who worked as a lawyer for the state. They wed in 1996 and settled in Westminster, Maryland. He predeceased her in 2013. She found great joy in tending to their gardens and cats, and also provided loving care to her mother when her health declined.
She is survived by her sisters Christine Gilbert (WHS Class '71) of Key West, Florida and Jane Gilbert (WHS Class '80) of Bel Air, Maryland. Her surviving feline companions, Imus and Herbie, are being cared for by her sister, Jane. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Susan Locke of Bath, OH, aunt and uncle Peggy and Arnold Willis of Lady Lakes, FL, and nine first cousins.
Per her wishes, there will be no services, and her ashes will be inurned at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio with her husband, parents, and much-loved maternal grandparents, Paul and Mary Greenwald.
The family is grateful to the wonderful staff at Arden Courts and Gilchrist Hospice for the loving care provided to her during the last months of her life.
