Carrie Bearden was the daughter of Richard Calvin Bearden and Emily Catherine Reagor Bearden, sister of James Matthew Bearden, Henry Clay Bearden, Cora Ann Bearden, Robert Lacy Bearden, Samuel Bearden, George Alexander Bearden and Betsy Edna Bearden.
She and her brother George, sold Cloverine Salve to make money to buy bicycles which they rode to a school where both of them taught. At that time, college degrees were not required to teach. She taught several years in Bedford county, until the time of her marriage at age 42, to Jesse Hobbs.
The couple moved to Detroit,as well as her sister, Betsy Lacy and sons. She then worked in the millenery department of the well-known department store, Hudson's, as shown in picture. She lived in Detroit about 14 years before returning to Lynchburg for the remainder of her life. She was interested in Republican politics, poetry and music. She was a fan of celebrities, like Will Rogers and still recieved a monthly movies magazine until her death.
She had no children and lived alone (except for a canary) until shortly before her death at age 87. She spent the last few weeks of her life in the home of Clifford, her nephew.
She was the family historian, keeping track of newspaper clippings of weddings, funerals social events such as all day quilting parties. She also kept documentation for the two Bearden family soldiers of the Revolution, John Bearden and Richard Bearden.
