David Alexander Purcell, Sr., 89, of 219 Mebane St., Eden, N.C. died Monday, April 18, 1994, at his home. He was born in Rockingham County, N.C. and was a member of Leaksville United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of N. C. State where he was a member of Phi Psi, National Textile Fraternity and a former member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. He was retired as the Vice President of Towel Division of Fieldcrest Mills. He was the past president of Southern Textile Association, a member of Eden Rotary Club, past Board of Directors for First National Bank of Martinsville, past trustee of Leaksville United Methodist Church and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry Co., former trustee for Ferrum College, and past Commissioner of Finance for the Town of Draper. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Holstein Purcell, home; sons, Jerry Purcell, Rockingham, N.C., and David A. "Alec" Purcell, Jr., Mercer Island, Wash.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ernest Purcell. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home, Falen, N.C.
