Allen, Barbara Pond Born March 23, 1922 in Minneapolis, died February 14, 2009 in Spring Park. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Martin Allen; grandchildren, Kelly Allen and Kenny Allen, and her brother, Robert Jackson Pond. She graduated from Washburn High School, the University of Minnesota and the New York School of Interior Design. She and Ken were married June 1, 1945 and raised their six children in Cottagewood on Lake Minnetonka. They were charter members of St. Luke Presbyterian Church where Barbara sang for many years in the choir. They were active at the Juniper Hill Ski Club and Minnetonka Yacht Club. After retirement, Barb and Ken spent winters in Colorado where they enjoyed skiing, camping, jeeping and life in the mountains. Later winters were spent in Naples, Florida. Barbara was a member of the Minneapolis Women's Club and the League of of Women Voters and was a regular volunteer at the Abbott Hospital gift shop. Barbara's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She supported them and cheered them on in sailing, skiing, hockey and all of their varied activites. She is survived by children, Bob (Cathy) Allen, Richard Allen, Katie (Bruce) Thompson, Harry (LeeAnne) Allen, Bill (Susie) Allen, Judy Allen Kim (Gary Larson); by grandchildren, Christy (Mike) LaCourse, David (Leslie) Kim, Adam (Stepahnie) Kim, Lynn (Kevin) Woodring, Amanda & Brian Allen, Emily, Katie and Mary Allen Mya Thompson (Zev Ross), Nina Thompson, Eric and Jesse Allen, Lindsay Allen, Molly (Chris) Hagen and Robbie Allen; by step-grandchildren, Karl Larson, Hans (Abby) Larson, Gretchen Larson, and Molly Zinn; and by great-grandchildren, Annalise, Lauren, John and Nicholas LaCourse, Sophie and Lily Kim, Sam and Emma Woodring, Niko and Anya Ross, and Eric Larson. The family wishes to thank Betty Bolster and her nurses and the staff of Presbyterian Homes Lake Minnetonka and Park Nicollet Hospice Care for taking fine care of Barbara in the past few years. Memorials preferred to the Cottagewood Community Foundation,Lake Minnetonka Sailing School or St. Luke Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held Friday, February 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Lafayette Country Club, 2800 Northview Road, Minnetonka Beach (952-471- 8493). Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service. A reception will immediately follow the service at Lafayette Country Club.
