Gussie Turner, 88, of Portland died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. Mr. Turner was a native of Kosciusko, Mississippi and a resident of Portland for many years. He was a retired carpenter and commercial fisherman and a member of the Portland Baptist Church.


He is survived by his wife, Mary Anderson Turner of Dumas; eight grandchildren, Jamie Burns, Patricia Spaulding, Tim, Joe and Dedra "Sissy" Dehart, Lisa Castaneda, Damon Turner and Kathy Sadler; 19 great-grandchildren, Derric, Cody & Joseph Dehart, Kristine Romine, Ashley & Amber Searbeau, Andee Murray, Amanda & Matt McClain, Ashley Burns, Taylor & Caleb Spaulding, Colten Wilson, Regina Bell, Erika Fryer, Cameron & Lily Sadler, Michael Turner and Alex Hogue; and five great-great-grandchildren, Noah Romine, Lexie & Alex Chappell, Decklin & Kyler Bell.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Lee Turner in 1979; two daughters, Betty Ruth Burns and Mary Joyce Dehart; a son, Claude A. Turner; two grandsons, Ronnie & Michael Burns and his parents, John J. & Annie Snellings Turner.

Grave-side services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 12, in the Portland Cemetery with Revs. Carl Mason & E. W. Ricks officiating. Funeral arrangements are by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg. See the online guest book at www.jones-hartshorn.com
