BOTH WERE DRUNK
----------------
Weir City Man Shot and Fatally
Wounded a Friend in Drunken
Brawl
----------------
Weir City, Kas.,Mar. 2. With a hole through his
body, made by a 45 calibore revolver fired by Vick
Vanslo, Frank Calone is lying at his home in west
part of this city fatally wounded, while the man
who shot him is confined in the jail at Columbus.

The shooting happened at a place in West Weir
yesterday afternoon at about 2 o'clock and the
only reason known for the trouble is that they
had been drinking, and both too much intoxicated
to realize what they were doing.

They were apparently good friends in the forenoon
when they reached the place greeted each other with
handshakes but after commencing to drink it was seen
Calone was becoming quarrel some and after he and
Vanslo had been quarreling a few moments Calone struck
Vanslo knocking him down then stepped aside.

When Vanslo arose to his feet he was bleeding from
his mouth where he had been struck by Calone. He
started to where his antagonist was standing and as
he got near enough to him pulled a 45 calibre revolver
from his hip pocket and struck Calone over the heaad
and knocked him down and before he could get up fired
one shot at the prostrate man.

The ball entered at the pit of the stomach and came out
at the back and went through the floor under the man.
The bullet struck the spinal column in its course,
fracturing and shattering it so that the wounded man
is paralyzed in the lower part of the body and in the
lower limbs. Bystanders at once sent for a surgeon and
attended to the wants of the wounded man who was acutely
suffering and begged that some one shoot him and put
him out of his misery.

Vick Vanslo shot and probably fatally wounded Frank Calonne, Sunday evening. The shooting resulted from Catome knocking Vansole down. The men have heretofore been good friends, but quarreled while drinking together, with the result that one may die and the oher is in jail waiting trial , and whether Calone lives or dies will have to face a serious charge before jury.

sentenced to 90 days in county jail and to pay costs of prosecution.
