Helene M. McHugh passed away after a brief illness.
Helene was born in Hazleton on Oct. 21, 1921and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie (Hammernick) Mc Nellis.
She was a member of St. Bosco Church, Conyngham.
During WWII, she was involved with the American Red Cross and the Ration Board supporting the war effort.
Before retirement, she was a chair-side dental assistant.
Helene was an accomplished equestrian and golfer.
She participated in numerous local and state tournaments and championships, receiving many trophies.
During the years, she was active with WPCGA and for many years, was VCC representative to NEPWGA and co-captain of four club team matches.
Wanderlust resulted in the wonderful experience of viewing some awesome scenic areas of the U.S. and exciting cultures and scenery of six continents. She was also an avid bowler and was involved with the CVCO.
After retiring from golf, , shebecame an avid bridge player and reader.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and step-father, Robert H. Smith, were her husband, Leo F. McHugh and a sister Betty.
Surviving are her 2 sons and a grandson, also a sister, Roberta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10a.m. in St. John Bosco Church, Conygham.
Interment will follow in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Hazleton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home Inc.,532 N. Vine St., Hazleton.
