Funeral service for Pfc. Jimmy L. McGhghy, killed in action in France, will be held in the First Baptist church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oakland cemetery. The body is at the DeJong's Funeral Home.
The son of Louis and Madeline Birley McGhghy, he was born June 24, 1925 in Keokuk and spent all of his life in this vicinity, attending the Wells-Carey school and graduating from the eighth grade in Montrose.
After his schooling he worked one year for the Postal Telegraph Co. before entering service October 27, 1943 at Camp Dodge.
From Camp Blanding, Fla., where he received his basic training he was transferred to Camp Ellis, Ill. and sent overseas in June of 1944. He was killed in action in France one month later on July 25, 1944.
He was a member of the First Baptist church.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Madeline Hamilton; his step-father, R. J. Hamilton; a brother, Joseph and a sister, Mrs. William Winn. all of Keokuk; two half brothers, James and Arthur McGhghy of Keokuk; a grandmother, Mrs. Mary Mardis of Keokuk; grandfather, James McGhghy of Dean , Iowa; two step-brothers, Junior Hamilton of West Point and Eugene Hamilton of Adams, Minn.; two step-sisters, Mrs. Lola Juhl of West Point and Mrs. Maxine Hermuth of Ft. Madison; and a number of aunts and uncles. His father died December 24, 1934.
