Mrs. Robert Hamilton, 59, of Argyle died at 5:40 a.m. today in Graham hospital after an illness since Wednesday.

Born April 17, 1902 near Wayland, MO., Madelene Mae Briley was the daughter of Henry and Mary Coop Briley. She had lived in Argyle for eight years and before that lived in Keokuk.

Her first husband Lewis McGhghy preceded her in death and on June 5, 1936 she married Robert Hamilton in Montrose. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Navy Mothers and Gold Star Mothers.

Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Mardis of Keokuk, a son Joseph McGhghy of Argyle, a daughter Mrs. William A. (Edna) Winn of Keokuk, two brothers, William Briley of Keokuk and Louis of Rupert, Idaho, 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and father she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy McGhghy killed in World War II in France in 1944.

The funeral will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in DeJong's Funeral Home with burial in Oakland cemetery.

Funeral service for Mrs. Madelene Mae Hamilton was held at 2:30 p.m. today in DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. George Potts officiating. Mrs. William DeJong was organist.

The pallbearers were William Winn, Jr., Louis E. and Michael Winn, Richard Johnson, Jesse and Jerry Juhl. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Sunday at 7:30 p.m. the V.F.W. Auxiliary held a service in the funeral home with Mildred Riley, president, Betty Sackman, senior vice president, Pearl Surprenant conductress and Emily Wyrick, chaplain.

Surviving in addition to those listed in the obituary are four step-children, Mrs. Kenneth Juhl of West Point, Mrs. Willard Herrmuth of Travis Air Force base, Calif., Clarence Hamilton of Adams, Minn., and Robert Hamilton, Jr., of Sperry, Iowa, 13 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Note: Madelene Mae Briley first married Lawrence Snowden on April 21, 1919. Madelene and Lawrence Snowden had a daughter, Edna Azalea Snowden. They divorced in December 1919.

Then Madelene Mae Briley married Louis (Lewis) McGhghy about 1921. Edna Azalea Snowden was Louis (Lewis) McGhghy's step-daughter then. Madelene and Louis McGhghy had two sons together, Jimmy L. McGhghy and Joseph Edward McGhghy. They divorced about 1933.

Then Madelene married my grandfather Robert James Hamilton June 5, 1936.
