Mr. Thelbert L. Blaxton, age 94, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Meadows Park Health and Rehab in Vidalia after an extended illness.

He was a native of Montgomery County and lived there and Toombs County all of his life. He was a 1945 graduate of Vidalia High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran where he was wounded in battle serving in the Korean War from 1950-1951. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Tabernacle Baptist Church of Vidalia. He retired after thirty-five years from Palmetto Box Company in Vidalia as Plant Superintendent. He was a lifelong farmer, and enjoyed fishing, especially at Shellman Bluff.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Blaxton; parents, Alex Grover Blaxton and Mamie Beckum Blaxton; and three siblings, Juanita Blaxton Tyson, Betty Blaxton Humphrey, and Herbert Blaxton.

His family includes his wife of seventy years, Irpeel Barfield Blaxton of Vidalia; two sons, Donnie Blaxton and wife Aurora of Henderson, Nevada, and Tony Blaxton and wife Frieda of Bonaire; two sisters, Joanne Blaxton Waters of Oak Park, and Elizabeth Blaxton McLemore of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Beau, Elijah, Jerome, and Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. The graveside funeral will be Saturday, February 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Randy McDuffie and Pastor Bobby Thompson officiating. Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 160, Vidalia, GA 30475.
