Ms. Bettie Jane ("BJ") Dyer passed away at her home in Blairsville on February 5, 2023, at the age of 85. BJ was born on April 11, 1937, in Cullman, AL, the oldest child of the late Horace Belvin Pope and the late Lois Mickle Pope. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend. Throughout her life, she was a devout Christian and quiet champion of equality. She taught and became the school counselor at Union County High School, served as school counselor and chaplain at Tallulah Falls School, and retired as a counselor for Cherokee County (GA) Schools. She served a term as president of the Georgia School Counselors Association and was a πmember of the Beta Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and eucharistic minister at St. Clare's Episcopal Church, Blairsville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, at 11:00 AM at St. Clare's Episcopal Church.
