Teresa Helene (Bauer) Lopata, 76, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed peacefully Wednesday, January 25, 2023. She was born November 4, 1946, in Granger, Indiana to the late Burnie and Helene (Cryan) Bauer.

On November 24, 1989, in South Bend, Indiana, Teresa married Marvin Lopata, who preceded her in death. Teresa was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Elizabeth Ann (B.A.) Bauer and Margaret Mary (Bauer) Fountain. She is survived by siblings B. Patrick (Karen) Bauer, Barbara (Larry) Kowalewski, Matthew (Marcia) Bauer, Bernadette Bauer, Mary Francis Griffin, and Brenda Bauer-Bare. Holidays with family were always a full house gathering. She was thrilled to be godmother to three of her nephews, Kevin Kowalewski, Mark Fountain, and Bart Bauer. Known affectionately by her 18 nieces and nephews as "Aunt T.T.", she helped celebrate a number of their birthdays and life's special occasions. These include Chris Kowalewski, Ray Kowalewski, Kevin Kowalewski, Ann Fountain, Mindy Fountain (Cumbow), Mark Fountain, Katie Lee, Stephanie (Bare) Yavorsky, Stacie Bare-Davis, Kara Bare, Bart Bauer, Megan (Bauer) Phillips, Maureen Bauer, Holly Bauer, David Bauer, Nick Bauer, Brian Griffin, and Helene Griffin. Teresa was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in South Bend, Indiana, class of 1964. She graduated from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana, in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in art. Teresa's love for people showed through her involvement in her community as a member of The Junior League of South Bend and St. Mary's Alumnae Club. Civic involvement was also important to Teresa as she was active in local political campaigning and related organizations. She briefly worked as a realtor, but her true joy was being co-owner and general manager of Bridget McGuire's Filling Station, of which she would relive stories of these days in great detail with her close family and friends into her final years of life.Teresa loved to travel and explore the world and cherished her time studying in France as an exchange student. She affectionately cared for and adored her dogs as members of her own family. She was passionate about the arts and was an avid painter and photographer. Teresa loved to be creative and would find beauty and new life in the ordinary, old, and outdated. Palmer Funeral Homes - Hickey Chapel is handling the arrangements for the family. A Mass and Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1pm. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Thérèse Little Flower Catholic Church 54191 N. Ironwood Rd, South Bend, IN 46635. Friends may visit with the family in the church at 12pm. on Friday, February 3, 2023. Grave services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Indiana.
