Richard J. "Rich" Struthers, 73, of Reese, died Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw, from cardiac complications.
Rich was born October 12, 1949 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, son of the late Richard K. and Agnes (Evan) Struthers. He was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School. On June 10, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Neva Bartolotta, at St. Phillip and St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg. After their marriage, they moved to Midland where Rich continued his education at Northwood University. It was while attending Northwood, he found a part time job with Ware Smith Funeral Home and Ambulance Service in 1968. While with Ware Smith, Rich found a fondness in helping others. After Northwood, Rich earned his Mortuary Science Degree from Wayne State University in 1971 and began his lifelong care in funeral service. In 1974 Rich became the managing director at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home in Reese. He made Reese his home and started a family.
Rich held various offices with the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Reese Fire Rescue. In January of 2013, Neva passed and in 2015 Rich met Rhonda Farver. Rich had a lifelong love of dirt track racing, and he enjoyed watching college football and wrestling. His passion was in keeping his lawn well-manicured, but his true love was spending time with his family.
Rich will be missed by his children, Christina (Jay) Wescoat of Reese, Michael Struthers of Reese; three granddaughters, Kennedi Tucker, Quinn Tucker, and Wrenn Wescoat; sister, Sandee Struthers Kennedy of Easton PA; niece and nephews, Shawn Kennedy, Nicole Kennedy, and Matt Bartolotta; great niece, Sienna Kennedy; brothers-in-law, Sam Bartolotta and Sal (Ann) Bartolotta; his Fiancée Rhonda Farver and her children, Mike (Meggen) Farver, and Shannon (Patrick) Mulligan; and Rhonda's grandchildren, Ty Farver, Colton Farver, and Jordan Mulligan; and Rich's second family, all the past and present colleagues at Ware Smith Woolever.
