Charles Michael "Mike" Mead was born on May 8, 1954, the beloved son of Charles Mathew and Jacquelin Ann Morgan Mead. He was born in Ames, Iowa, where his father was attending college. His family returned to Marshalltown when Mike was 3, and now a big brother, twice. Three more siblings followed, and Mike was the leader, in both age and intelligence. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School through 8th grade, Lenihan Catholic High School for his freshman and sophomore years until it closed, and then graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1972. He received a degree in electronics from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa.

Mike showed a keen interest in music and art at an early age. He started both piano and guitar lessons at age 8, and oil painting at age 10. Some of his oil paintings remain on the walls of his parents' home. Mike's delightful sense of humor was also illustrated in his cartoon drawings.

He formed his first rock 'n' roll band at age 11 and continued to sing and play lead guitar in numerous bands throughout his life. Music was his life. He was the sound and light man at the Events Center in Casper, Wyoming, for many years.

Mike married Margo Vaughn in Fairbury, Nebraska, on October 20, 1984. They had one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Mead, born on April 24, 1986. Mike and Margo later divorced, but remained friends.

Charles Michael "Mike" Mead " passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023, at the age of 68. Formerly from Marshalltown, Iowa, he most recently had resided at Park Manor in Tomball, Texas. He was under the care of Three Oaks Hospice after an extended illness. Rest in Peace, Mike. You have enriched all of our lives.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Sarah Elizabeth, her husband, Anthony John Stosich, and their 2 sons, Asher Graham and Lincoln; his parents Charles Mathew "Chuck" and Jacquelin Ann "Jackie" Morgan Mead; his sister Catherine Ann "Cathy" Mead, brother Patrick John "Pat" Mead, sister Teresa Ann "Teri" Thorne, brother Kevin Daniel Mead, and sister Bridget Kathleen and her husband Richard Scott. Mike is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and 3 aunts. His innumerable friends were his other family, and he dearly loved them all.

Preceding Mike in death were both sets of grandparents, John Lawrence and Elizabeth Josephine "Betty" DeMuth Mead; and Orson Wallace "Jack" and Elizabeth Barbara "Liz" Yungwirth Morgan; several cousins, and aunts and uncles. Many of Mike's friends have preceded him in death, and we can only smile at the reunion they are all having now.

A double funeral Mass for Mike and his father Chuck was celebrated on May 2, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Marshalltown, Iowa, with interment at Riverside Cemetery. Mike's ashes were interred in his parents' grave. His parents contacted Riverside Cemetery. Their policy is to only open the grave twice, so Mike's sister, Teri, kept his ashes to be interred with a parent. In lieu of flowers and cards, please support your local musicians.
