Bernie Willemsen, 75, died February 20, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. He was born in Lester, Iowa November 22, 1932 to Henry and Carrie Willemsen.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Zuidervaart on March 9, 1957 and they enjoyed 50 years together. He was a dairy farmer in Sunnyside and after retirement in 1988 they moved to the Tri-Cities. Bernie cherished family get togethers and enjoyed making new friends wherever he went. We have many fond memories of him telling stories and reminiscing.
He is survived by his loving wife, children Kathaleen Moore (Fred) of Stanwood, Richard Willemsen of Yakima, Kori Eidson (Al) of Richland, and Bev Van Zandt (Vern) of Kennewick. He also is survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Jessie Van Dam of Arlington, and brother Jake Willemsen of Buellton, CA and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Viewing will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 5 until 8 pm at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, Kennewick. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W Kennewick Ave, Kennewick, WA with burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
