Mary Jane Miller was born on March 5, 1869 in DeKalb County, Illinois, and passed away September 17, 1957 at Burke, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, six months and twelve days.

At the age of 10 she moved with her parents to a farm near Williams, Iowa. After finishing school she taught for two years.

They moved from Williams, Iowa, to Nebraska in 1899 by covered wagon, Mrs. Cady driving one of the wagons. They homesteaded four miles east of Jamison.

She was a truly pioneer wife and mother and served the community as a mid-wife nurse and an undertaker. She was very active in the Methodist Church.

On August 15, 1888, she married George F. Cady. To this union six children were born, Harry, L. Cady and Luverne M. Cady, both of Los Angeles, California; Luella M. Crisman of Camas, Washington; Hazel Blake of Jamison; Earl A. Cady of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Dorothy Reber of Burke, South Dakota. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; a brother, Herbert L. Miller, and a sister, Mrs. Phil Weller, both of Pasadena, California. She also leaves a host of friends.

George, her husband, preceded her in death by twelve years.
