His parents moved to Williams, Iowa when he was seven years old. As a young man he learned the blacksmith trade and followed it for ten years. In 1888 he married Mary Jane Miller. In 1899 they moved to Nebraska in a covered wagon with their family, going first to Cherry County. In November of the same year, they moved back to Boyd County where they homesteaded five miles east of where Jamison now stands. Five or six years later they moved to Jamison and have resided there since. He was postmaster for a number of years and ran a lumber yard in Jamison for several years. He and Mrs. Cady celebrated their golden wedding anniversary August 15, 1938.
The deceased was in good health until last July when he suffered a stroke and was forced to remain in bed. He rallied, however, and seemed to be recovering gradually. About two weeks ago his heart again became worse, and he was taken to the hospital in Burke where he quietly passed away. He departed this life at the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 2 days.
He is survived by his widow, Mary Jane Cady of Jamison; three sons, Harry L. Cady and Luverne M Cady of Los Angeles, California and Earl A. Cady of Fort Collins, Colorado; three daughters, Luella Crisman of Camas, Washington, Hazel Blake of Jamison and Dorothy Reber of Burke, South Dakota. There are eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He leaves besides thee a host of relatives and friends.
