Edward (Ed) James Marshall passed away in his home on January 11, 2023.
He was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin on August 5, 1938. He is preceded in death by his brother Peter (Paul) Marshall Jr. and parents Paul and Elizabeth. He often reminisced about the joy of his childhood growing up in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Raised by immigrant parents from Hungary, his mother was an excellent baker and his father was a forge worker with a talent for gymnastics in his youth. He would remember getting a packed lunch in his bag from his mom and spending the entire day in the park by the lake either swimming or trying to get a game of baseball going with the other neighborhood kids.
Ed graduated from Cudahy High School in 1956 and went on to get a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in teaching. While he was in college he worked his way through school by working his way up in positions at the Cudahy Public Library. The director of the library saw promise in Ed and encouraged him to take some college courses in Library Science so he could cover the reference desk on weekends and evenings. Little did Ed know, these classes would change the direction of his career. A job opened up at Bradley Tech (an all-boys trade school at the time) in the library and he was told he should take the job. That was the career Ed had until his retirement in 1996. He would proudly tell you the best part of his job was getting his own office, refrigerator, and coffee pot.
Ed's proudest life accomplishments were his two sons Scott Marshall (Angela) and Todd Marshall. He would frequently say he was proud of how accomplished his sons were in their careers and what good fathers they became. Ed enjoyed the time he got to spend with his grandchildren, Elyse, Alex, and Quinn. They spent their time raiding his candy drawer and playing games in his living room. He was thrilled with how intelligent and good looking they are (all his genes of course).
In his retirement years Ed greatly enjoyed being at home listening to jazz records and watching horror and science fiction films. A man who was reliable in ordering the same thing off the menu every time he would say why do you need to try something new, when you already found something you like. He was saddened in his final years that many of the friends, colleagues, and family that he loved had passed before him. His surviving family is saddened by his loss but heartened he will be reunited with those he missed.
