Ishpeming Twp, MI - Cheryl J. Abbott, age 75, of 345 S. Rose St. Ishpeming, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at her home while under the loving care of her family and the UP Home Health and Hospice.

Cheryl was born in Ishpeming, on October 20, 1947, a daughter of the late Julia (Raisanen) and Eino Lyyski. She grew up in Republic and was a graduate of the Republic High School, Class of 1965. Cheryl worked as a cook at several area restaurants including the Wawonowin; Robin's Nest, 41 steak house; Sherrie's; Francois' Crosscut; and Johnny's to name a few. Cheryl also worked as a seamstress at the H W Gossard Co. in her younger years; and later as a CNA at Bell Hospital and the Mather Nursing Center.

Cheryl was a member of NorthIron Church and a former member of the Republic Fire Dept. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, along with time spent at camp, berry picking, and some hunting and fishing. She also enjoyed traveling.

Cheryl is survived by her 4 children - John Abbott of Ishpeming; Julia (Scott) Mattila of Green Bay, WI; Richard Abbott and Matthew Abbott both of Ishpeming; sister, Victoria (Shawn) Radcliffe of Republic; two brothers, Walter (Donna) Lyyski of Waupun, WI; Robert (Roxanne) Lyyski, of Beaver Dam, WI; 7 grandchildren - James and Jeanna Mattila, Liam and Aidan Abbott, Spencer Tappy, John Abbott Jr. and Zach Madda. She was preceded in death by her husband Stewart in 2013, son Phillip in 2019, and mother-in-law Lillian Abbott.

Cheryl's family will greet relatives and friends from 6:00 until 7:00pm on Friday January 6, 2023, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Alex Ross officiating. Fellowship will follow the services in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery in the spring.
