Marv was born April 12, 1933, in Wenona, Illinois, to Rev. Herbert and Ella (neé Strauch) Himmler. As a fourth generation Lutheran Church worker, he touched thousands of young lives in the classroom and was regarded as a greatly respected and admired teacher. He was called to serve at St. John Fraser (Michigan), St. John LaPorte (Indiana), Trinity Utica (Michigan), and Lutheran High North Macomb (Michigan). Many lives have been impacted as he coached several sports and directed the highly admired school band at Trinity Utica. He chose to glorify God by leading many adult Bible classes and singing in the Men's Choir.
Marv was an accomplished woodworker, a talented craftsman, and a skilled handyman. He displayed his God given abilities to build a car, several boats, and numerous beautiful pieces of art. As a faithful servant of God, he loved to help others and didn't hesitate to lend a hand to those in need.
He had a deep love for his family and was a great role model for everyone who knew him.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ella Himmler, as well as his younger brother Arthur Himmler. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Margaret (Ream) Himmler, whom he married on July 9, 1955, in Mio, Michigan. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: Sharon (Thomas) Reband, Gary (Kelly) Himmler, and Laura (Charles) Rink. Marv was blessed with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Pauline (Gene) Harsted, and his sister-in-law, Noi Himmler.
Family will receive friends for visitation Friday, October 21 at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, Utica, Michigan. Saturday, October 22 he will lie in state until time of his funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica.
