♥ Wedding Anniversary August 31, 1911 ♥

Laura absolutely adored and loved Henry. On August 31, 1911 in Miller County, Arkansas, Laura Johnson and Henry Simpson were married. Through their loving union they brought into this world six sons and two daughters ♥ She was a very kind, thoughtful and giving person. A loving devoted loving wife and mother. A gentle and gracious woman.

Thanksgiving Day 1923, suddenly tragedy struck. All who knew my grandpa Henry shared the heartbreak, as he had passed away from injuries due to a horrific not at fault car/train accident. He was only 37. Their first son, William "Harold" age 11, was thrown from the car and miraculously survived. My dad (Herb) was baby number seven age 1 1/2. Eighth baby James "Jimmy", was born posthumously five months later in 1924. With his brothers, my grandpa Henry co-owned the Hope Ice Company in Hope, Arkansas.

My grandma Laura was employed through Montgomery Ward working in the office. Her father William, who was well off, worked in real estate. He had given her land with her home on it. This land also had about eight small rental homes. To help others out, my grandma made the rental fees just enough to cover expenses, making ends meet. To help some families, she worked it out, by not having rental fees at all. She knew they had no where else to go.

My grandma had her hands full with two girls and six boys. The boys, their personalities ran the gamut from gentle, kind, intelligent, creative, feisty, rowdy ... She eventually remarried to Ivan Good and times were a bit better, according to my father. My mom said Ivan had a good retirement. They had no children together.

My dad cherished and adored his mama, deservingly so. When he was age 16, his precious mama took ill and passed away. My dad's heart broke. The adult family members never talked to her children about what happened. Over 50 years later in his sister Evelyn's things was a paper (or the death cert ?), some information from my cousin which was regarding a notation about a female problem. Upon her passing she left behind to cherish her memory, second husband Ivan Good(e), daughter Evelyn, her six sons, her blind mother Annie who had helped in raising the family, many siblings, numerous aunts, uncles, many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by first husband Henry, father of her children, her father William and her twelve year old daughter Catherine. She is so dearly loved.

Sitting at the table with my father, he reached out and took my hand and said, "there is never a good time for a parent to exit one's life".

Ivan eventually left for Colorado. My dad wanted to go with him. Ivan said he wanted to take him with him but, as much as he wanted to he couldn't. Some of the other boys were a bit too much rowdy for Ivan to handle. My dad and Ivan wrote letters. The last letter my dad received was forwarded to Enumclaw, Washington in 1950 when my dad was in Korea.

When they were older, a precious note was written to my father from his sister Evelyn saying, "I think the Lord's Prayer in verse is beautiful. Mama loved the Lord's Prayer. It was in with her things". So I will enter it here for the love of their mama and daddy, my grandma and grandpa ❤ Laura and Henry ❤ and a loving bond never broken between a sister and a brother. Sister Evelyn continued to live in Arkansas and maintained the family home as well as her own until the 1980's. Sadly she passed away in early 1991.

❤ To My Grandma and Grandpa ❤
I know my dad did right by you grandma. He was just a boy and he cherished you. You were everything to him. I have looked at your photo and wondered what it would have been like to get to talk with you both. You were both so in love ♥♥

❤ Always Loved and Forever Missed
Through Making Memories ❤

✝ Lord's Prayer ✝

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.

Amen.

Held in our hearts ♥

Lovingly,
Your Granddaughter,
