Actress. She is best remembered for her portrayal of the sultry Sally Palmer in the film "Search for Beauty" (1934). Born Margaret Wing, she was raised in a prominent theatrical family; her father was director Paul Wing and her maternal grandfather was the renowned actor - playwright Arthur Pinero. Due in part to her parents' connections at Paramount Pictures, she made her screen debut at the age of 9 in "A Boy of Flanders" (1924) and from there she went on to appear in over 30 motion pictures; often typecast as debutantes, chorines, best friends, playgirls, gold diggers, co-eds, love interests, singers, bathing beauties, models, and attractive clerical workers. She appeared in such full length features as "He Who Gets Slapped" (1924), "Marry Me" (1925), "Zander the Great" (1925), "Double Daring" (1926), "Palmy Days" (1931), "The Kid from Spain" (1932), "42nd Street" (1933), "Baby Face" (1933), "College Humor" (1933), "She Had to Say Yes" (1933), "Come on Marines" (1934), "Murder at the Vanities" (1934), "One Hour Late" (1934), "Forced Landing" (1935), "Mr. Cinderella" (1936), "Thoroughbred" (1936), "True Confession" (1937), "The Women Men Marry" (1937), "Mr. Boggs Steps Out" (1938), and "The Marines Come Thru" (1938). During her career, she was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, was a stand-in for Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow, was a celebrity spokeswoman for Max Factor Makeup, and she was a tabloid sensation due in part to her well-known romances with such prestigious leading men as Jackie Coogan, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr., and Maurice Chevalier. In 1938, she withdrew from acting following her marriage to aviation pioneer Dick Merrill and settled in Virginia where she spent many years as an active parishioner of the Episcopal church, a devoted mother to two sons, and went onto enjoy a successful secondary career working in real estate ventures.
