MELANIE LOUISE GREENTREE - September 20, 1974-November 8, 2022

Melanie Louise Greentree was born on September 20, 1974, the fourth child of Janet and Fred Greentree (Jean) in Falls Church, Virginia. Her siblings are Lisa Greentree Tully (Paul), Mark Greentree (Wendy), and Gregg Greentree (Michele). She also was aunt to Ashley & Jack Tully (Suzanne), Sarah & Katerina Greentree (Mark), and Jack & Dylan Greentree (Gregg).

Melanie learned to do many things by watching her older brothers and sisters. Her older siblings were on the Lake Braddock Lakers Swim Team in Burke, VA. Melanie learned to swim while watching meets in her stroller. When her Mom put her in the pool the first time, her entire body was moving trying to swim. She was swimming from that point on. Her first swim meet was when she was four years old. She swam the entire length of the pool. When she was in the 8 and Under Girls Relay competition, she and her teammates hold a relay record that is still standing in the Lakers record book.

Melanie was a gypsy of sorts. Her Mom always called her a semi-hippie. She lived in lots of places over the years. Her favorite place was Portland, Oregon. She always came back to Northern Virginia and was currently living in Richmond, VA with her boyfriend Chris when she died of Atherosclerosis Cardiovascular Disease on November 8, 2022. Our family is absolutely distraught that she died at the young age of 48.

Melanie was always into organic food, vitamins, and other organic products. She worked at Whole Foods for a long time and then went out on her own as a rep for many different organic products. She had just opened her own LLC. She worked very hard as a rep visiting many stores with her products in the Mid-Atlantic region. She was coming into her own.

Melanie was a wonderful cook and baker. She told her mother than she used to watch her cook all the time and that made her want to do the same. She even started a little company called Melly Belly Bakes. Melly Belly was a name her parents called her when she was small. Her niece Katerina Greentree designed the logo for her company. Her favorite time of the year for baking was at Christmas. Her cookies were absolutely beautiful and very tasty.

When her death was announced, so many people reached out to the family to tell them how much they loved Melanie, what a sweet person she was, and what a hard worker she was. The family has felt so much joy from her friends and clients that it has dulled some of the grief we are feeling but certainly not all. Her family loved her so much. She will be missed forever and ever.

She was also a lover of animals – mostly cats. She left her beloved cats Willow and Thora. If anyone would like to donate in her name, please send contributions to Toni Piatt, AdvoCats LLC, Phone 540-419-5335.
