Born in Georgetown, he was the son of Rev. John Kirkwood Hendricks, Sr. and Margaret Lewis Hendricks of Charleston. Husband of Susan Cain Hendricks.

He was a 1984 graduate of Wofford College with a BA in History and minor in Education. He later received a Master's from Clemson in Secondary Administration and Education. He previously served as Principal of Hickory Tavern Middle School and for the past three years was Principal of Laurens District 55 High School. He had also been a former teacher and coach.

He was a member of Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church of Laurens, relations director on the staff of Parish, NWEA Educational Consultant, SC Coaches Association, member of the Wofford Terrier Club, SCASA South Carolina Association of School Administrators, NASSP National Association of Secondary School Principals, ASCD Association of School and Curriculum Development, SLEI School Leadership Executive Institute, 4-A Athletic Committee and Coordinator of Region 4-A.

He is survived by his parents, wife, one daughter, one brother and four sisters.
