"Born in Byesville, OH, Dec. 20, 1925, to Otis and Clara (Griffiths), the oldest of eight children, Jim made his first income as a young boy trapping muskrats and selling the pelts. At age 10 he caddied at Cambridge Country Club where he was apprenticed to become a club pro. Right after graduation he served an apprenticeship with Reynolds Molded Plastics (later Continental Can) as a tool designer-draftsman. He was a past commander and 70 year member of American Legion Post 116 and an original member and organizer of the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary. He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1947.

Moving to Elyria with his wife and daughter in 1952 he began his career with General Industries (plastics division) retiring in 1990 as Senior VP. He was co holder of several innovative patents used extensively in the automotive industry, home appliances and more. He was an original organizer and past president of the Lorain County Sales & Marketing Execs Club (SME). As SME Youth Director he organized and conducted the first of many sales clinics and competitions for the Junior Achievement organization stimulating and encouraging young minds.

During his 60 years as a member of First United Methodist Church in Elyria he created and served as their first archivist, authoring two booklets on its history. He served as a past president of The Methodist Historical Society of Ohio.

An avid golfer, Jim enjoyed a 60 year membership at Elyria Country Club serving as past president (1993), permanent historian, Tree Memorial Chairman, a hobby photographer whose framed photos still grace their walls, designer of the booklet created for their 100th anniversary in 1995 and earned the title of Honorary Life Member. He was a 21 year member of Firestone Country Club, King Solomon Masonic Lodge (32nd degree) and Cleveland Scottish Rites.

After his wife's death in 2015, he moved to Loveland, CO, be near his daughter and son in law where he enjoyed new friends and the Rocky Mts until his peaceful passing on October 14.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Fehrman), four brothers, Otis (Junie), Bill, Jerry, David & one sister, Patricia, (Hoey)."
