Robert (Bobby) Akulonis, 61, of Pittston, died Monday at Geisinger Wyoming
Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late Anthony and Clara (Rice)
Akulonis. He graduated from Duryea High School. He worked for Ackey's Service
Station, Duryea, and the Wilkes-Barre Post Office. He served in the U.S.
Marines during the Vietnam era. He belonged to St. John the Evangelist Church,
Pittston, the American Legion Post 585 Duryea, the Disabled American Veterans,
and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 302,
Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert, John, Rev. Joseph,
Anthony and George; sisters, Leona Fedor, Romayne Akulonis, Agnes Lisauskas
and Anna Meriesky.

Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Bruce, brother, Alfred
Akulonis, Duryea; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bernard J. Piontek
Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea with a Mass of Christian Burial at
9:30 a.m. in St. John's the Evangelist Church. Interment will be in St.
Joseph's Cemetery, Duryea.
