James McQueen Buchanan was the son of Thomas Jefferson Buchanan and Sophia Williams Martin Buchanan. He attended the University of Mississippi. He was the Superintendent of the East Mississippi Insane Asylum. At one time he was Grand Commander of the Mississippi Knights Templar, and a member of the Pythian Knighthood. He was President of the Mississippi State Medical Association, Member of the American Medical Association and of the American Medico-Psychol. Association. He married Sally May White and later married Leta Mitchell.
