Lillie Jones White ran away from home to marry my great grandfather Luther White and ran the farm while he was teaching at the local school. On one occasion she was out at the barn and had left the oldest son home for a change to keep watch on the younger ones and the new baby. When she got back she found the children playing in the yard and the baby there with them alseep. She also found that the house was burned down. When she asked her son what had happened he answered the house caught fire and he got the kids out but that was all he could do. SHe told him he did a good job and sat down with the children to wait for her husband.
That was the kind of lady she was. She was patient and kind and she took things in stride. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and could make you feel like you were special. She was a wonderful great grandmother. I called her "Grandma" and I truly miss her. When I was little and we went to visit I always loved it and she took the time to pay attention to me which was not easy as she had somewhere between 30-40 great grandchildren with any number of them running around her house at any given time. When I was becoming a teenager and had no time for family gatherings she kept the connection strong by writing me letters. I could have used some her advice at times in my life but I know she is keeping watch and I have no doubt she is doing so from Heaven.
