I was 20 years old and still didn't have a drivers license, or a car, because who needs a car when you grew up in a city with a major mass transit system? Well it was time. I had a learners permit and was tired of walking everywhere. John Garton had a new 1970 Ford Pinto with a 4 on the floor and showed me how to work a clutch. He sat in the passenger seat and let me practice. Because of John's help and that of Wayne McLean, Elta Cours and Dennis Rowley and his friend from Windsor, I was able to get my license on the first try. John's father John Garton Sr. was a local broadcasting legend who was one of the founders of CHYR Radio. (Then CJSP) Thank you John, rest in peace sir.
