William Augustine Washington's father was Colonel John Augustine Washington, (1736-87) who was a large landowner and a member of the Virginia conventions of 1775 and 1776. He married in 1756, Hannah Bushrod (c1738-1801), daughter of Col. John (-1760), a burgess, 1746-56, and justice, and Jane Corbin Bushrod, of "Bushfield." At her father's death they inherited and lived at "Bushfield," on the Nomini, Westmoreland County. The handsome mansion at "Bushfield" was shelled and burned in the War of 1812. A new house was built on the site in 1917. Their six children were Mary (c1757-c62); Jane (1759-91) who married in 1777, her half first cousin Col.
