Margareta was born on Åland Island, situated between Sweden and Finland. Her father fought in World War II with the United States allies, and thus, the family gained immigration to the United States. She remembered, as a young child on Åland, hiding in the snow under white sheets with her mother and brother, as bomber planes were flying overhead.
Wife to Charles D Williamson (deceased). She is survived by her son, Erik C Williamson (Waxhaw, N.C.); and four grandchildren, Alexander (Richmond, Va.), Halen (Waxhaw, N.C.) Ella (Waxhaw, N.C.), and Josephine (Waxhaw, N.C.); as well as a grand-niece and nephew, Ethan (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Charlotte (Waxhaw, N.C.). She is also survived by niece, Lynn Haggblom (Raleigh, N.C.).
Margareta bred/raised Collies and Keeshonds, and enjoyed competing at AKC dogs shows. She was a charter member of the Greater Fredericksburg Kennel Club and had been the club's President, Treasurer, and Show Chairman.
During her mid-life, Margareta earned a Bachelors at Mary Washington University and a Masters degree in Architectural History from the University of Virginia. She fought for the preservation of many local historic sites.
Margareta loved to travel and did so to many countries in Europe, enjoying the culture, food, natural beauty and historical sites in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, France, Italy and Greece.
The family welcomes those who wish to celebrate her life to a memorial service at 3 p.m., on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Chancellor Baptist Church, 11324 Gordon Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Fredericksburg Kennel Club in Margareta's name.
