Daughter Mae recalls:
Isabella, also known as Bella, was an uneducated woman, who must have been very strong. She was of Swiss, German, and Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry. One of her children, Howard, was born with Down's Syndrome. At the age of 28 he was beaten in a police station. He also loved to do jig-saw puzzles (500 pieces). Although Isabella wanted him put in an institution, he remained at home with her until his death in 1947.
The family was financially quite well off. Ida Mae remembers that throughout her childhood, she was accustomed to a life of luxury. There were always at least six servants in their home and they had imported oriental rugs and furnishings. In 1915, the family moved from Port Richmond to Winnfield. After the couple seperated, the house at Winnfield was sold. A smaller home was bought for Isabella, but William never lived there. There were two servants (one for cooking, one for cleaning), at the smaller home.
She read, but was not religious. Isabella was somewhat reclusive and lived with her son, Bill, in the last few years of her life at Northfield, New Jersey. This is all according to her daughter, Ida Mae Hudson Williams. However, at the time of her death, she is at the address of her husband.
