James R. (Bob) Moddrell, Sr. of North Little Rock departed this life Thursday, January 24, 2008 in Mena, Arkansas.
Bob was born November 11, 1922 in Westville, Oklahoma to parents T. M. (Mac) and Lorena D. Moddrell. He went to California when he was 18 and went to work at Douglas Aircraft from 1942 to 1943. He proudly enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving his country during World War II in the European theater, primarily stationed in England. He returned to California after the war in 1946 and returned to Douglas Aircraft where he worked before the war, and to marry his wife of 40 years, Gloria L. Hansen. In 1947 he was employed by North American Aviation for 231/2 years as a Field Technical Representative. First, on the F-86 Sabre Jet Program, where he and family lived in many foreign countries, such as Japan, Holland and the Philippines, to name a few. After several years in the field, he and family returned to California, working on the X-15 and Hound Dog missile programs. Another great opportunity for him, working on the Apollo space program, and spending time at the White Sands Missile Range testing facilities in New Mexico. He was a part of the Space Shuttle program, until his departure from the company in 1970. Then he and the family moved to Arkansas, where due to a close personal friend of many years, he became one of the earliest employees of Federal Express in Little Rock later moving to Memphis, working in management in the Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Following divisions with the company. After the loss of his wife and retirement after 17 years from FedEx, he returned to North Little Rock to live with his son and family. He had many accomplishments in life but one dear to his heart was becoming a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by hiswife Gloria and his father, T. M. (Mac) Moddrell.

He leaves behind his only son James R. (Bob) Moddrell, Jr. and his wife Linda A. Moddrell, and their son Brian R. Moddrell of North Little Rock, and his mother, 106 year old Lorena Moddrell of Mena, Arkansas as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. He has many friends all around the world who will sorely miss him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Jeff Olson. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
