A beautiful lady made Heaven even brighter when Mary Ellen Adair closed her eyes on earth and opened them wide in her new home with Christ and the friends and family who welcomed her with open arms. Granny is no doubt reveling in the unending joy and hugging fast and furious.

Mary Ellen Adair was born as Mary Ellen Grady, on October 28, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away on July 5, 2022 in Gun Barrel, Texas. The days between those dates were filled with pursuing dreams, overcoming challenges, and pouring into the lives of others. Anyone who knew "Granny" knew they were loved and she made it easy to love her back.

Mary Ellen graduated from Denton High School and married her first sweetheart, Bertram Montgomery Hunter. Together they had four children, known in short form as Mike, Deb, Thom and Sue. But Mary Ellen truly had two great loves, her two wonderful husbands: George Oliver Thomas and Robert Lafayette Adair, Jr., lovingly known as Bob.

While raising her four children, occasionally as a single mom, Mary Ellen was always willing and capable to do what it takes to care for the ones she loved. She was once a waitress at Pat Boone's Country Inn, did home sales demonstrations for Salad Master cookware, sold office supplies at Kibler's Office Supply and dresses at J.C. Penney and was assistant manager at Majors Scientific Books in Dallas until retirement. That's just a few of the jobs at which she excelled.

Mary Ellen was known for her love of Christ, her faithfulness to God and her fierce loyalty to family and friends. She loved to serve others, whether through church, or social groups, such as Corsicana Newcomers Club, or just through responding to the needs she would see among her family and neighbors. She was fearless and always willing to jump in and help, her personality leading the way and opening the doors so her love could follow through.

Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, William Francis and Veda Odell Grady, her sister Bobbie June Thurmond and her brothers, Johnny L. Grady and Billy (William Francis Grady, Jr.), her first daughter, Deborah Kay Burnett, and sons-in-law Joe Tommy Knight and Tommy Burnett. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bertram Montgomery Hunter and her beloved husbands George Oliver Thomas and Robert Lafayette Adair, Jr.

Survivors include daughter Priscella Suszanne Knight (Sue), two sons, Michael Jim Hunter (Mike) and his wife Kathy, and Thomas Dean Hunter (Thom) and his wife Lisa. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Jason Hunter, Chad Hunter and his wife Jamie, Alicia Potter and her husband Jesse, Christina Calderon and her husband Mario, Daniel Burnett, Zachary Hunter and his wife Dawna, Russell Hunter and his wife Katherine, Donovan Hunter and his wife Melissa, Patrick Hunter, Lauren Field and her husband Alex, Jennifer Ashcraft and her husband Ricky, Wendi Duncan and her husband Brad. Mary Ellen's legacy will also continue through her 21 great-grandchildren.

The Celebration of Mary Ellen's life will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 2 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Services, 2025 W. University Drive in Denton, Texas. A graveside service will follow at Trinity Cemetery in Denton where she will be laid to rest between George and Bob, the great loves of her life.
