Marion entered the service in August 1942 and took radio training at Ft. Riley Kansas and Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri for one year.
He then signed up as a paratrooper and took his training at Ft. Benning Ga.
He was sent overseas shortly after Christmas 1943 and was first stationed in Ireland then sent to England from whence he took part in the D-Day Invasion.

Pvt Pence jumped into Normandy at about 0130 hours, June 6, 1944 and was severely wounded that same day. He died of his wound eight days later in an Army hospital at Blosville, Normandy on June 14,1944.
