Obituary Published in The Seattle Times, on March 7, 2021-

HELEN ROGERS passed away on Friday February 26th, 2021, in the Overlake Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 89. Helen was born the eldest daughter of the late Robert and Phyllis de Lotbiniere-Harwood in Vancouver, British Columbia, on June 24, 1931. She grew up on Point Grey and attended the University Hill School before matriculating at the University of British Columbia from which she graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1954. The same year she married Harry S. Rogers whose career as a hospital administrator took the young couple to Ely Nevada, Sedro Woolley Washington, Helena Montana, and finally to Seattle and Bellevue.

Helen became the mother of five children, two sons, and three daughters. She was a devout Episcopalian and an active participant in church affairs serving on several key committees for the Diocese of Olympia (Western Washington); including the Diocesan Council, Standing Committee Chair, TACS and was, for many years a reader of the examinations for Holy Orders. She was also active in All Saints Church of Bellevue, where she became a member of the Bishop's Committee and served as senior Warden in 2004. A firm believer in the role of women in society she raised her family with the ideal that her daughters, and sons, should pursue independent and fulfilling careers as each of them has done. From her family she inherited a remarkable aesthetic sensibility and appreciation of art that displayed itself in a beautiful home to which strangers were always welcome. Her feelings for color, love of flowers, and knowledge of display and design have left a lasting mark on all who came to know her. She enjoyed a good party and shared that joy with others when she entertained at home.

By personality she could be humorous, incisive, and a bit of an iconoclast. She liked ideas and was fond of debating issues. She preferred to read what she called "serious" books, including works on corporate management, rather than novels or mysteries. She could be firm, and even stubborn, in defending what she thought as right and was endowed with a rigorous sense of social justice. And yet, above all, she was at home in her garden, which she designed, loved, and cared for with fervent devotion until just last summer.

She is survived by her loving husband Harry; her sister Margaret Ann Notehelfer (Frederick); her two sons; her three daughters; -- as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date; memorial gifts may be made in her name to St Paul's Episcopal Church of Seattle.
