Richard Allen Rissmiller, age 78, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Harrisburg, PA. Richard was born in Reading, PA, the son of Ruth Mabel (Elbert) Rissmiller and John Henry Rissmiller. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1959, Hershey Junior College in 1961, and Millersville University in 1963. He then served three years as a missionary teacher in Liberia. He then graduated from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in 1974 and served as a Lutheran pastor until 1984. He retired from the PA Department Human Services. Throughout his life, he played French horn in a number of community bands and was very active in his church congregation at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church in Middletown, PA. His is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Ann (Hoffman) Rissmiller; a daughter, Robin E. Ames and her husband Drew Ames; two grandsons, John and Andrew; a son, Matthew; and two sisters, Susan Bittler and her husband Paul, and Ann Horting and her husband Edward. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother, David Rissmiller and a sister, Ruth Brunner.
