Race Car Driver. Competed in seven Indianapolis 500's with his best finish 5th in 1946, 1949 and 1950. Also competed in 1940, 1941, 1947 and 1948. Owned and operated THE JOIE CHITWOOD THRILL SHOW (aka Hell Drivers) in the 1960's and 1970's. Had a minor role in the 1950 film "To Please A Lady".Joie Chitwood was a race car driver and owner of Joie Chitwoods Hell Drivers for many years. At one time he had four units touring the county showing at county fairs throughout the east and midwest. His Grandson, Joie Chitwood III is presently the President of Daytona Motor Speedway.
