Lou grew up in Monroe, MI. A very outgoing young man, he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Following the war, he married Kaleope "Cally" in 1955 in Toledo, Ohio. He furthered his education by receiving both his undergraduate and Master's degree from the University of Michigan. He served as a director of the Economic Club of Detroit, and was on the Board of Governors at the Cranbrook Institute of Science.

He served as a director for Capitol Bancorp of Lansing, and worked with Private Bank (formerly Bank of Bloomfield Hills), and was also the former Chairman at United Savings Bank. He also spent 26 years at Manufacturer's National Bank of Detroit, serving as President from 1973 to 1982 and as Deputy Chairman from 1982 to 1984.

Lou served on the board for Children's Hospital, as well as the Karmanos Cancer Institute (formerly Michigan Cancer Foundation) for many years.

He was very involved with his church, St. George Greek Orthodox, having served on the National Council for the Archbishop as a financial advisor for many years. He helped the church in many ways, always volunteering his time and knowledge.

Family always came first to Lou. He was very close to his wife and children and was a very supportive, kind, and generous man. Lou made friends everywhere he went and whether they were business friends or personal, he was always willing to help them all.

Lou was a man who had interests in everything. He loved to travel. He has visited the Far East, Europe, and South America to name a few. A most memorable trip was with his family to Greece in 1972.

Lou was a Mason and also a member of the Birmingham Country Club. He enjoyed supporting the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Beloved husband of Cally for 51 years. Dear father of James (Elaine), Perry (Miriam), Lawrence (Kellie) and Laura Hess (Cletus). Loving grandfather of six. Brother of Jeanne Gangas. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
