David Alvin Basey, Honor, 54, entered eternal rest at his family farm on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. God blessed David by allowing him to spend his days at the farm he loved so much surrounded by his family. "God is good – all the time." David would say this quote all the time. One of his favorite Bible verses was 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.

He was born in Beech Grove, Indiana the son of the late David and Evelyn (Oakley) Basey. When David was a young boy his parents and sister would visit his grandparents farm in Honor. That's when David fell in love with Michigan.

David married his sweetheart Paula Schmidt on May 31, 1988 and they were blessed to raise their two children Heather and David, on same farm their father loved so much as a young child.

He was employed with Great Lakes Stainless Steel Company. David enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and golf. He was a member of Son Life Wesleyan Church where he was the Sunday school teacher, greeter and trustee. David was known as a kind, generous, intelligent man who inspired people with his faith and hope in God. He was very active in Keryx Ministries and Emmaus Community in Traverse City and West MI Community.

He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family. David will be sincerely missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.

He is survived by his loving wife Paula; children Heather (James) Lamoreax of Charlevoix and David Basey of Grand Rapids; brother James Basey of Indianapolis, IN; many brothers and sisters in law; along with many nieces, nephews and very special friends.

Memorial service 2:00 PM Saturday June 30, 2018 at the Son Life Wesleyan Church, Beulah with Pastor Ken Blair officiating.
